The Expedition
July 2025
Successfully completed one of the most extensive micro and nanoplastic sampling missions ever conducted in the North Atlantic.
Over 10 days, the team crossed 10 of the Faroe 18 Islands’ by boat, vehicle and on foot, navigating sea swells, mist-covered cliffs and steep terrain.
Despite unpredictable weather conditions - including heavy fog, persistent rain and high winds - the team completed all primary sampling objectives ahead of schedule.
A total of 49 samples were collected from lakes, beaches and coastal environments - including from Lítla Dímun, the only uninhabited island in the archipelago.
The expedition also featured a rare live interview with the Faroese national broadcaster (KVF), raising public awareness and local engagement with the science.
