We are thrilled to announce Mako as an official sponsor for Mission Spiritus Antarctica. Mako’s commitment to innovation, resilience, and excellence in their field aligns seamlessly with the values of our mission. Their support will help drive forward critical research into the spread of nano and microplastics in one of the world’s most remote and extreme environments.
Mako, known for providing liquidity to global derivatives markets through options market making, has built a stellar reputation for staying at the forefront of trading technology. With a powerful alignment of people, technology, and a people-centric culture, Mako has cultivated a collaborative, high-performance environment—qualities we deeply value here at Mission Spiritus. This sponsorship is also a reflection of their dedication to making a positive impact beyond the trading floor, and we are honored to have them on board.
To celebrate the partnership, Mako hosted Mission Spiritus’ Alan Chambers at their London office, where he shared his inspiring polar experiences in a live interview with Mako’s Founder, David Segel. Joined by Ben Curry, CEO of The Royal Marines Charity, Alan’s talk delved into the significance of Mission Spiritus and highlighted the connection between stress, mental health, and the critical need for resilience and adaptability when facing extraordinary challenges. The event provided Mako employees with valuable insights into the mental and physical resilience required for polar exploration, echoing Mako’s own ethos of pushing boundaries to achieve excellence.
In a show of camaraderie and excitement, Mako took the event further by organising an immersive, snow-themed experience. Staff members took on a small taste of the expedition team’s challenges, strapping on harnesses and dragging sleds weighted with 100kg across the floor. Even in this controlled setting, the simulation offered a glimpse of the physical endurance required to navigate the featureless and frigid landscape of Antarctica, where temperatures can plunge as low as -50°F.
Mako also presented Alan with branded gear and a signed flag, which he and Dave Thomas will carry on their journey across the icy terrain. This gesture symbolises a powerful connection between Mako’s team and the mission, as well as a shared commitment to pushing limits and exploring new frontiers.
Mission Spiritus Antarctica will focus on collecting vital data to study the impact of micro and nanoplastics, furthering research critical to the future of climate and human health. This sponsorship by Mako Trading reinforces the expedition’s impact and highlights the importance of interdisciplinary partnerships in tackling the urgent environmental challenges of our time.
We are honored to have Mako Trading as a valued partner on this journey, and we look forward to sharing updates from the mission as our team navigates one of Earth’s most extreme environments.
